By:Tony Eaude
Published on 2008-01-04 by Learning Matters

The second edition of this popular text has been revised and updated to include the new Professional Standards needed to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Tackling these elusive but fundamental aspects of children's development, this text places the importance of spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding in a cross-curricular context. It directly links between children's attainment and the wider aspects of personal development, beliefs and values, explaining the environment in which learning flourishes and demonstrating how trainees can promote this in their teaching. In addition, it helps enrich the trainee teacher's experience, laying firm foundations for their continuing professional development.

The Internet Playground PDF
By:Ellen Seiter
Published on 2005-01-01 by Peter Lang

The Internet Playground argues that contrary to the promises of technology boosters, teaching with computers is very difficult. Ellen Seiter points out that the Internet today resembles a mall more than it does a library. While children love to play online games, join fan communities, and use online chat and instant messaging, the Internet is also an aggressive marketer to children and, as this book argues, an educational boondoggle.

Technologies for Children presents a comprehensive array of contextual examples for teaching design and technology to children from birth to twelve years. Aligning with the Australian Curriculum - Technologies, this book focuses predominantly on design technologies, with special reference to digital technologies. It provides both theory and practical ideas for teaching infants, toddlers, preschoolers and primary children. Each chapter explores a different approach to teaching technologies education, along with elements of planning such as project management, achievement standards and pedagogy. Technologies for Children provides a framework for critiquing these approaches in order to make informed choices about them. Teaching Number PDF
By:Robert J Wright,Garry Stanger,Ann K Stafford,James Martland
Published on 2006-08-30 by SAGE

The book lets teachers identify where their students are in terms of number skills, and sets out a strategy for developing their knowledge. The authors show how to advance children's learning across five stages of early arithmetical learning - emergent, perceptual, figurative, initial number, and facile number. This provides for increasingly sophisticated number strategies across addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as developing children's number word and numeral knowledge, and their ability to structure number and have grouping strategies. The approach used nine guiding principles for teaching. Each chapter has clearly defined teaching procedures which show how to take the children onto the next more sophisticated stage. The teaching procedures are organized into key teaching topics, and each includes: o a clearly defined purpose o detailed instructions, activities, learning tasks and reinforcing games o lists of responses which children may make o application in whole class, small group and individualised settings o a link to the Learning Framework in Number (see Early Numeracy- second edition, 2005) o how the guiding principles for teaching can be used to allow teachers to evaluate and reflect upon their practice Primary practitioners in Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada have tested the teaching procedures which can be used in conjunction with each country's numeracy strategy. Primary teachers, especially of the early years, mathematics co-ordinators, heads of school, mathematics advisers, special educationalists, learning support personnel, teacher assistants, lecturers in initial teacher training and educational psychologists will all find this book invaluable.
